What Actually Happened

It started slowly. In late 2025, a handful of teams began uploading AI-generated images through our design request form — not as references or mood boards, but as the actual kit they wanted us to produce. Full designs, created in ChatGPT or Midjourney, with their club colours and sometimes even their badge already placed.

By March 2026, it wasn't a handful anymore. We hit 12 complete team design requests in a single 10-hour window. Every one of them included an AI-generated concept. Every one of them expected a professional mockup within 48 hours.

The problem wasn't the volume. The problem was that our design service was free, and many of these requests came from people who wanted to see what their AI concept looked like on a real jersey — not necessarily to order. We were spending 3-4 hours per design on technical conversion, colour calibration, and mockup rendering, with no guarantee anyone would buy.

Why AI Designs Can't Go Straight to Print

This is something most people don't realise. An image from ChatGPT or Midjourney looks amazing on screen. But it's not a production file. To actually print it on fabric using dye sublimation, a designer needs to:

Rebuild the design as a vector file. AI outputs are raster images — pixels. Sublimation printing requires scalable vectors where every colour zone is defined precisely.

Calibrate colours for sublimation. What looks like "navy blue" on your screen might print as purple on polyester. The colours need to be mapped to sublimation-safe values that produce the right result on fabric.

Align the design to a 3D garment template. A flat image doesn't account for seams, sleeve angles, side panels, collar construction. The pattern has to be deconstructed and mapped onto each panel of the jersey.

Position logos correctly. Badge placement, sponsor positioning, player name and number zones — all need to be set within the production template with exact margins.

This process takes a skilled designer 2-4 hours per kit. It's the gap between "I made this in ChatGPT" and "my team is wearing it on Saturday." And it's the gap only a handful of suppliers in the world are willing to bridge.

We didn't want to stop accepting AI designs — it's become one of the things that makes MOMUTO different from every other kit supplier. No one else does this. Not Owayo, not Spized, not Jersix. We're the only ones who take a concept generated in an AI tool and turn it into a real, wearable, professional-quality football kit.

But we needed a way to separate the teams who are serious about ordering from the ones who just want to see their prompt on a jersey for fun.

The result: overnight, the noise dropped. The teams that stayed were the ones who actually wanted kits. Our designers went from juggling 12 uncommitted requests to working deeply on 4-5 confirmed projects — with better output quality for everyone.

   Secure your design slot

   We'll reply within 24 hours with a link to pay the €30 design deposit. Once paid, your project moves to our designer's queue.

   Receive your production-ready mockup

   Our designer rebuilds your concept as a professional vector file, calibrates colours for sublimation, and renders a 3D mockup. You'll see exactly what your kit will look like — before ordering anything.

4. 04
   Approve and order

   Happy with the result? Confirm your sizes and place your order. For 5+ kits, the €30 deposit is deducted from your total. Production takes 7-12 days, delivery 25-30 days worldwide.

Why This Matters for Teams in 2026

AI has made it possible for any team captain to create a professional-looking kit concept in minutes. But no AI tool can manufacture a jersey. The last mile — from pixels to polyester — still requires human expertise, physical materials, and production infrastructure.
